Hematology-Oncology Associates, South Jersey:
Historical Perspective
Nearly 50 years ago, Dr. David Flinker, receiving his training at the Cardeza Foundation of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, came to the Memorial Hospital Burlington County as the first physician offering expertise in Hematology and Medical Oncology at the community level. He joined with other subspecialists in the field of Internal Medicine, founding Moorestown Medical Associates. Dr. Alan Weinstein subsequently joined him, to be followed by the addition of Dr. Michael Entmacher and Dr. Maurice Cairoli.
Eventually, growth and the changing medical environment in Burlington County led to the need for the establishment of our present group as a separate entity. In 1991, Hematology-Oncology Associates of South Jersey was formed. We moved from Moorestown to our present location in the Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mount Holly, New Jersey in 1996. Drs. Seth Berk, James Lee, and Stephen Wallace were added to the group, as was Phyllis Duda, an Advanced Practice Nurse.
David Flinker and Alan Weinstein have since retired but their vision and efforts resulted in a practice that has maintained their philosophy of offering sophisticated, current, state-of-the-art medical care in a personal and supportive environment. We are all Board Certified in our subspecialty. Our nurses are certified in chemotherapy administration and treatment is given on-site in our office. We offer the opportunity for our patients to participate in clinical trials for most cancer types and several of the hematologic disorders. We have had a long time affiliation with the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, bringing additional opportunities for therapeutic interventions.
